*Disclaimer* The following statement is posted as received from the candidate, no edits have been made."Progressive Service - The Best Kind of Parkland Leadership"

Like many of my fellow students at Parkland College, I found my dreams of attending a 4-year college shattered by the economy. Parkland College gave me a second chance, and I now believe that it is the key to saving higher education. It is in the spirit of this belief that I wish to serve as Parkland's Student Trustee. I use the word serve intentionally, for it is the platform from which I campaign; that of progressive service and the best kind of Parkland leadership.

In high school, I served progress by devoting countless hours to the educational community. As captain of Centennial's Speech Team, I led my classmates from school to school, reaching hundreds of students as an anti-drug advocate. I toured middle and elementary schools as a life-long music student, encouraging future participation in classes like band, orchestra, and choir. I acted as captain of the "Voices of Centennial", my school's announcement board, a role which would later influence my decision to go into communications. I worked with organizations like Salt & Light, and Empty Tomb, and I participated both onstage and backstage in over 25 local theatre productions. I did all of this while working a part-time job and maintaining a nearly flawless GPA, and I loved every second.

At Parkland, I continue my lifetime of progressive service through a group called the Parkland Ambassadors. I've given tours to visiting groups, and helped out with events like the annual College Expo and the Matt & Kim Concert. I've even given direct feedback on projects like the new Student Services Center, and the upcoming my.Parkland web feature. For all these examples and reasons, vote for me, so that I can further bring progressive service to Parkland College as your Student Trustee.
