I want to personally thank all of those who responded to our survey sent out to all the student email accounts. I also want to thank the hundreds of you that signed our petition supporting FIRST – increased funding for clubs, activities, Student Government, inter-murals, etc. We took that that proposal before the Parkland Board of Trustees at their December meeting. I hope you all did well on your finals and had a great winter break.
Dear Mr. President: What do you do as Student Government President?
Dear Carolina: As student president it is my responsibility to lead the Student Government. That includes in our frequent meetings, events, and advocacy efforts. It is my duty to set the agenda for us and delegate responsibilities. I appoint students to committees and personally serve on campus committees. You can typically find me in my office every day of the week in the afternoon. I am usually working on reports, proposals, and other things to benefit students. Since November I have been working on FIRST, which I wrote about previously. I also meet with campus administrators and officials often to discuss student issues. Stop by and see me with your concerns and ideas in room X159 or email me.
Dear Mr. President: How can I get information on what Student Government is doing?
Dear Sam: Student Government has recently ramped up its efforts to communicate with the student body. We launched a new Facebook page in December. Please ignore the old page that we no longer have access too, the picture for it is a black polo. This article you are reading is another brand new effort to keep students informed. Over a month ago we also launched a Student Government tab on my.parkland. This year we have also made sure to have someone in the office every day. We also have been spending numerous hours in the college center lately amongst our fellow students to hear their concerns. I hope some of you enjoyed the "Cookies & Concerns" event the week before finals. I know we did. Stop by from 11am-1pm and you will very likely find someone. Other times of the day it is also likely we are around, but that is the most likely time. We also have a twitter account @PlandStugo for those of you who prefer that method. Email us using the email provided. Call us at 351-2227 and leave a message if we do not answer. We are here to serve the student body and hope to hear from you soon.
I encourage students to send questions to me at stugo@parkland.edu. I will pick 2-3 questions to respond to for each article.
