Students showcased a variety of digital media in a juried exhibition at the Parkland Art Gallery. The creativity and talent was enough to rival many colleges and digital media programs.

The Parkland Art Gallery was abuzz with family, friends, and faculty for the May 22 Digital Media Student Juried Exhibition. As people munched on cheese and crackers and wandered the exhibit, local DJ Lincoln Jones laid down electric beats to add to the atmosphere. Inside the gallery were television sets and projectors playing several 2-D and 3-D animation shorts with playful characters and stories, along with several posters, advertisements, Web designs, and even board games throughout the room. All work was done by students in the Graphic Design and 3-D Animation programs and selected for display by faculty and the jurors respectively.

Most of the Graphic Design work was done for assignments with clients. Students designed posters, ads, CD covers, and Web sites for businesses and companies, although only a few of which were 'real' clients that actually used some of the work. Everybody seemed impressed with the quality of work, many faculty members commented on it and mentioned that it continues to improve every year. The 3-D Animation program itself has grown steadily in the past couple of years, with growing numbers of students and classes offered by Parkland.

The winning pieces were selected by jurors outside of the Parkland faculty. The lone juror for the Graphic Design pieces was John Jennings, an assistant Professor in Graphic Design at the University of Illinois. And the three jurors for the 3-D Animation program were Joel Morenz from Vertex Solutions, Lori Zawada from Volition, and Jan Troutt from Precision Graphics.

Congratulations to all of the participants and winners!
