CHICAGO-When the first Obama supporters cleared the metal detectors at Grant Park at a little after 6 p.m. on election night, they burst into a run across the open grass, some elbowing each other to get as close to the stage as the barricades allowed.

Many thought this would be the biggest thing they saw in their lives.

Who ever said money isn't free?
By Cassandra Cunningham, staff writer

What would happen if lottery winners didn't claim their winning money? Each semester many hundreds of dollars go unclaimed because students simply become uninterested when they see the word "essay" or "letter of recommendation" written on an application, or don't take the time to search for scholarships that are right for them.

[Editor's note: the first name in the article has been changed at the student's request]
Before Drake, a student at Parkland, made it home from school, he died.
The cause: drunk driving in the Gallery Lounge in the middle of campus.
But Drake wasn't really driving, he was using a simulator provided by a company called Peer that simulates drinking and driving in an attempt to show people what the experience is really like, or at least as close as possible without having a solitary drink.

Every war has a certain stigma attached to it. During the Vietnam War, Asians were put in prison camps. During the Civil War, African Americans were abused in a number of ways. And now, during the Iraq War, Muslims are being greatly misunderstood.

The Muslim Student Association is the next club on our list of awesome clubs to join.

MINNEAPOLIS-Quit smoking. Turn off the computer. Go to bed.

It could improve your grades. Of course, parents have always known that. Now, in the first study of its kind, researchers at the University of Minnesota have proved it. They matched grade point averages with the typical health problems such as smoking, drinking and stress reported by nearly 10,000 Minnesota college students.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-On a recent Thursday evening, Neal Theobald, Indiana University's vice chancellor for budget administration, received a sobering letter from Sallie Mae, the nation's leading provider of student loans.

"Because of the continuing turmoil and uncertainty in the credit markets, Sallie Mae has made the difficult decision to tighten the underwriting on all our private student loan products, which will require applicants to meet higher credit standards.

As the holiday approaches, now is the perfect time to start planning the Thanksgiving meal. For those of you guys whose wife or girlfriend usually does all the cooking, here is a chance to step up to the plate and show your significant other that she is much appreciated and that you are not totally useless in the kitchen.

LEAD STORY

Donna and Joel Brinkle of Deltona, Fla., raised a family and held respectable jobs until, in the 1990s, they declared themselves a sovereign nation and stopped paying taxes. Subsequently, the county took their home, and they now appear to be living on the handouts of their son and their church, but they have become irritations by filing property liens against government officials (including, once, President Clinton) who fail to recognize their independent authority.

November may be a rough transition for some, from perfect fall days to the freezing cold winter blizzard days, but for many November is a month to look forward to-perhaps going from eating little to suffering from a food coma during the holidays, as well as enjoying many great concerts in the area.

Americans are now more aware of the economical and environmental impact caused by automobiles. Americans still need their cars, and just a short while ago when gas was beginning its climb towards record numbers in the U.S. the automobile was enemy No. 1 for the financial strain it was putting on the consumer at the pump and the environmental strain it was putting on world.

Does a new technology instantly make a product better? Is the iPod really that much better than a CD or a vinyl record, or is a ten-megapixel camera better than a 35mm Leica? These thoughts are debatable, but what can't be argued is that consumer devices are constantly changing.

With over 10,000 students on campus, and a large number of them driving, hit and runs happen on occasion at Parkland College. However, Illinois state law says you have a duty to immediately locate or notify the driver of the other vehicle. Unfortunately, a lot of students tend to neglect this obligation because they are running late for class.
