88.7 WPCD, Parkland College’s radio station, recently attended the SXSW Music Festival and Conference. While at the festival, WPCD had the opportunity to cover the mtvU Woodie awards and festival.

The mtvU Woodie awards and festival took place on March 15 from 1 to 10 p.m. during SXSW. The festival was packed with college students and music enthusiasts all throughout the day, mostly attributed to its rave-worthy lineup featuring A$AP Rocky, Chiddy Bang, fun., and Kimbra, who was recently made famously known by her contribution to Gotye’s single “Somebody that I Used to Know.” Musical artists Santigold, Mac Miller, and Steve Aoki later performed at the award show hosted by DJ Pauly D and Dev. Sponsors present at the mtvU Woodie awards and festival include Doritos, Sony, Salt Lick BBQ, Reese’s, Vitamin Water, and Life Beat.

mtvU is a division of Viacom’s MTV Networks and features music from indie rock, hip hop, and pop artists. Much of mtvU’s programming also includes activism and shows that take place on college campuses. Parkland College is an mtvU affiliate and broadcasts the channel in the cafeteria and gallery lounge. Parkland students are eligible to participate in mtvU internships and activities because of Parkland’s affiliation with the channel.
